A global family of firefighters who ride.

From one conversation in Massachusetts to hundreds of chapters worldwide, the Red Knights are built on service, respect and the open road.

Origins

The Red Knights story

It all began on a warm summer day in 1982 at Randy's Cycle Shop in Boylston, Massachusetts. A group of firefighters were kicking tires and talking bikes when the conversation turned to motorcycle clubs. They admired the other service clubs but asked: "Where's ours?"

Shop owner Randy Wilson didn't let the idea die. He turned to Ed Wright, a firefighter from Northboro, and said: "Stop complaining, start one."

Ed took the challenge. That same afternoon, he hand-printed posters and invited local firefighters to a meeting at Northboro Fire Headquarters. On August 17th, 1982, under the approval of Fire Chief Jack Pierce, a small group of riders gathered to turn talk into action.

Two months later, on October 19th, 1982, eleven dedicated firefighters, including Colin Mackey, Bob Bourassa, Roger Wentzell, Dave Hamilton, and Chief Pierce, met again. Their mission was clear: promote the positive image of motorcycling while building unbreakable bonds among firefighters.

That night, the Red Knights Motorcycle Club was born.

Word spread like wildfire. By July 1983, a chapter formed in Connecticut. In October, a second chapter rose in Massachusetts. Soon, applications arrived from Nevada, Louisiana, even Ontario and Saskatchewan. The club was no longer local. It was international.

In August 1983, the founding members formed a National Board of Directors to guide the growing family. The name evolved to reflect its reach: Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club.

From that single spark at Randy's Cycle Shop, the Red Knights now proudly boast hundreds of chapters across dozens of countries and thousands of members worldwide, including MALs (Members At Large).
